HAYS, Kan. – Fort Hays State Tennis moved to 6-2 overall for the season with a 7-0 win over CSU-Pueblo on Friday (Mar. 14) at the FHSU Tennis Courts. CSU-Pueblo moved to 1-8 overall for the season. The Tigers swept all matches contested.
CSU-Pueblo only had four players available for the day, so the Thunderwolves yielded a pair of points to the Tigers in singles by not fielding a No. 5 or No. 6 player.
Bethan Gill and
Grace Unruh both picked up forfeit wins.
In doubles, the Tigers needed just one match to go their way without CSU-Pueblo fielding a No. 3 team, but they won both contested.
Shreethika Vangala and
Janae Montoya won 7-5 at the No. 1 position and
Irina Alfonso and
Suzana Faucz won 6-1 at the No. 2 position.
Ines Latorre and
Yone Pereiro picked up a forfeit win.
The Tigers won the No. 1 through No. 4 singles matches in straight sets. Pereiro breezed through her match at No. 4 6-0, 6-1, while Faucz posted a 6-1, 6-3 win at No. 3. Vangala won the No. 1 match 6-3, 6-2 and Alfonso won the No. 2 match 6-3, 6-4.
Fort Hays State's exhibition match with Barton (Kan.) Community College scheduled for Saturday has been canceled. Next up for the Tigers on the schedule is a three-day road trip, starting with a match at Sioux Falls on Wednesday, March 18 in Sioux Falls, S.D.
