LIBERTY, Mo. – Fort Hays State Tennis rolled to a 5-1 victory over William Jewell on Sunday morning (Mar. 30). The match concluded when the clinching team points were secured in singles play. The Tigers are now 11-3 overall on the season, winning 10 of their last 11 matches.
Fort Hays State's No. 2 doubles team of
Irina Alfonso and
Suzana Faucz and No. 3 doubles team of
Ines Latorre and
Yone Pereiro each picked up wins to secure the first point of the match. The No. 1 match was left unfinished once the Tigers had the clinching point.
The Tigers breezed right through most of their singles matches. Alfonso (No. 2) and
Grace Unruh (No. 5) shut out shut out their opponents by scores of 6-0, 6-0.
Bethan Gill won by forfeit at No. 6 with William Jewell not able to field a sixth player.
Suzana Faucz also finished her match at No. 4 by a score of 6-2, 6-2. Pereiro was up a set in her No. 4 match, but did not finish.
Shreethika Vangala fell in the No. 1 match 6-2, 6-1.
Looking ahead, the Tigers host two conference matches in Hays this upcoming week, facing Washburn on Wednesday (Apr. 2) and then Emporia State on Saturday (Apr. 5).
