EDMOND, Okla. – Four members of the Fort Hays State tennis team competed at the ITA Fall Central Regional over the weekend (Sept. 19-21), hosted by the University of Central Oklahoma.
Molly Gaddis picked up a pair of wins in singles play, while
Ines Latorre also notched a singles win. Latorre and
Bethan Gill also picked up a win in doubles play.
Gaddis competed in Singles Draw B and both dropped her first contest of the tournament. However, she bounced back for a pair of wins in the consolation bracket. She defeated Jordan Parker of Henderson State 6-2, 7-6 (7-5) and Macie Heide of Ouachita Baptist 6-0, 7-6 (9-7). She then advanced to the consolation final with a walkover from Mia Hosking of Harding and default from Elena Williams of Northwest Missouri State. Latorre also competed in Singles Draw B and won her opening round match 6-1, 7-5 over Mylin Lemke of Sioux Falls, but she fell in the next round.
Yone Pereiro and Gill both competed in Singles Draw A and went 0-2.
Latorre and Gill were paired together for Doubles Draw B and fell in their first match of the event. However, they bounced back for an 8-3 win over Ware and Krejov of Arkansas Tech in the consolation. They did not play any more matches beyond that. The team of Pereiro and Gaddis fell twice in Doubles Draw A.
Fort Hays State returns to action on Wednesday (Sept. 24) with a home match against Hastings College, set to begin at 1 p.m.
