The Fort Hays State volleyball team opens conference play this weekend (Sept. 26-27) at home with a pair of MIAA matchups. The Tigers will first host Missouri Southern on Friday beginning at 6 p.m. before taking on Central Missouri on Saturday beginning at 1 p.m.

Fort Hays State enters the weekend on an eight-match winning streak, fifth-longest in the MIAA. The Tigers are 11-1 overall, while Missouri Southern is 6-5 so far this season and Central Missouri is 7-2 on the year.

Fort Hays State leads the MIAA and ranks second across all Division II with 669 kills through 12 matches this season. The Tigers are third in the league with an attack percentage of .252 while they also rank third in the MIAA with an average of 14.54 kills per set.

Kirsten Evans enters the week with 26 service aces this season, one off the MIAA lead and seventh-most in Division II.

Gracie Rains are tied for the team lead with 2.71 kills per set, ranking 15th in the conference.
Abrey Galt has averaged 6.65 assists per set through the non-conference slate, sixth-most in the league. Reeves' 40 blocks are sixth-most in the conference, while Evans' 155 digs are seventh-most in the league.

Missouri Southern opened the year with six wins across its first seven matches but enter conference play at 6-5 overall after losing each of the last four contests. The Lions most recently lost to Arkansas Tech in four sets, a team that FHSU defeated 3-1 earlier in the season. The Lions are 10th out of 12 teams in the MIAA with an attack percentage of .214 while they rank 11th with an opposing hitting rate of .200. Alana Moesch leads the Lions and ranks fourth in the MIAA with an average of 3.30 kills per set.

The Jennies enter the weekend 7-2 overall and winners of three in a row. One of UCM's victories came in straight sets on the road against 13th-ranked Grand Valley State. UCM ranks sixth in the conference with an attack percentage of .244 while the Jennie defense is eighth in the league with an opposing swing rate of .165. The Jennies have numerous players that rank in the top five in the MIAA in various statistical categories, including Kayla Baer who ranks fourth with an average of 9.56 assists per set, Rachel Ziesman who ranks fourth with 1.1 blocks per frame, Grace Wikelmann who ranks fourth with an average of 4.94 digs per set and Shaye Koski who is fourth with an average of 3.77 points per stanza.
The Tigers are 3-36 all-time against Central Missouri, including a five-set win over the Jennies in the most recent meeting in Hays in 2023. FHSU is 1-9 against the Jennies under Wood-Atkins.
