Tiger Coaches Honored as Members of National Championship Teams in CMU Athletics Hall of Fame

FAYETTE, Mo. – Fort Hays State men's soccer head coach Alex Nichols was honored with his 2018 and 2019 men's soccer national championship teams at Central Methodist University this past Saturday (Jan. 17). Both teams were inducted into the Hairston Hall of Fame, the name of Central Methodist's athletic Hall of Fame. Nichols was already an individual inductee into the Hairston Hall of Fame at CMU back in 2023.

A couple of recent assistant coaches for Fort Hays State men's soccer team were also among the two teams inducted. Marcos German was a student-athlete on both national championship teams at CMU before eventually playing for Nichols for a season at Fort Hays State in 2024. He then became an assistant coach on FHSU's 2025 team that made it to the NCAA Division II national semifinals. Saad Mohacht was a student-athlete on the 2018 national title squad and he eventually came to Fort Hays State as an assistant coach for two years alongside Alex Nichols. He was also an assistant coach for Fort Hays State's 2025 national semifinalist team. Mohacht was recently hired as an assistant coach at James Madison University in January.

Nichols guided Central Methodist to back-to-back NAIA national titles in 2018 and 2019. The Eagles had a record of 21-2-2 in 2018 and then 25-1 in 2019. Nichols was the NAIA National Coach of the Year both seasons.

Nichols just completed his second year as head coach at Fort Hays State. He currently owns a record of 33-5-7 at Fort Hays State and an overall collegiate coaching record of 195-43-22 in 12 seasons as a head coach.
