CRETE, Neb. — Fort Hays State defeated Doane University 6-1 on Friday (Oct. 9) to wrap up the fall portion of their 2026-27 dual schedule. The Tigers swept all three doubles matches and took five of six singles matches. FHSU also won all four extra matches contested. The Tigers moved to 3-2 overall on the season and only have the ITA Fall Regional remaining on the schedule before the winter break.
The Tigers earned the doubles point with wins on all three courts, all by scores of 6-2.
Madeline Deters and
Janae Montoya defeated Isabella Castillero and Elizabeth Roth at No. 3 doubles.
Caelie Cox and
Bethan Gill clinched the point with a win over Ana Paramas and Josline Carter at No. 2.
Albany Pulido and
Sandra Rodriguez added a victory against Maria Purizaca and Liz Calderon at No. 1.
The Tigers quickly built on their 1-0 lead in singles play. Cox defeated Castillero 6-0, 6-1 at No. 5 singles to make it 2-0, and
Mekenzy Clark followed with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Roth at No. 6 to put the Tigers one point away. Pulido clinched the team win at No. 4 singles, defeating Carter 6-2, 6-2. After the clinch, Rodriguez beat Paramas 6-3, 6-1 at No. 3 and Gill topped Calderon 6-4, 6-3 at No. 2.
Charlie Stirling was the only Tiger who fell short in singles, 6-3, 6-4 at No. 1.
Ines Latorre picked up a pair of exhibition wins. She teamed with
Charlie Stirling in doubles and one of the extra contests for singles. Deters and Montoya also won exhibition singles matches.
Up next, the Tigers travel to Edmond, Okla., for the ITA Fall Regional starting on Oct. 22.
