HAYS, Kan. – Fort Hays State Tennis moved to 6-2 overall for the season with a 6-1 win over CSU Pueblo on Friday (Mar. 13). The Tigers won two of three doubles matches to claim the first point of the match, then won five of six singles contests to secure the win.
In doubles action, the No. 2 team of
Molly Gaddis and
Ines Latorre, as well as the No. 3 team of
Ines Steeman and
Janae Montoya won tight contests by a score of 6-4. It was enough to clinch the team point as No. 1 team of
Bethan Gill and
Diana Souza lost 6-2.
In singles, Gaddis had to play out a 3-set match and won by scores of 6-1, 2-6, and 6-3 at the No. 2 position. In the midst of that match, the Tigers picked up the clinching points for the team win. Gill won her No. 1 match 6-4, 6-4, Latorre won her No. 3 match 6-3, 6-1, Steeman won her No. 5 match 6-1, 6-3, and
Angeliki Efthymiou won her No. 6 match 6-2, 6-1.
Janae Montoya fell in a tight 3-set match at No. 4 6-7, 6-3, 6-7.
The Tigers extended their winning streak to five-straight matches. They play an exhibition at Barton Community College before going on the road next week to Sioux Falls, Minnesota State, and Truman.
