HAYS, Kan. – Fort Hays State Tennis wrapped up its 2025-26 season on Saturday (Apr. 25) at the FHSU Tennis Courts against Newman. The Tigers fell to the Jets 6-1, ending their season at 8-11 overall.
The Tigers were very competitive in all singles matches contested, which were played before doubles matches due to weather concerns. However, the teams were able to get in all matches and played doubles matches second.
Ines Latorre picked up a point for the Tigers at the No. 6 singles position with Newman unable to field a sixth player.
Bethan Gill nearly nabbed a second for the Tigers at the No. 1 position, but fell in a third-set tiebreak 11-9. She came back from a 6-2 loss in the first set with a 6-4 win in the second. She pushed the tiebreaker set to a win-by-two situation, but unfortunately came up short.
Janae Montoya nearly forced a third-set tiebreak, falling 6-1, 7-5 to her opponent at the No. 3 position.
Ines Steeman also fell in straight sets of a competitive match at No. 4, 7-5, 6-4.
Diana Souza took five games off her opponent at No. 5, while
Molly Gaddis retired from her match after being down a set.
In doubles action, the No. 1 team of Latorre and Gill fell 6-2, while the No. 2 team of Montoya and Steeman fell 6-1. Souza and Gaddis picked up a win at No. 3 since Newman could not field a pair with just five players available.
