Scheck Preps for Men's Golf National Championships

Cooper Scheck will represent the Fort Hays State men's golf team at the 2026 NCAA Division II Championships next week (May 18-20) at Boulder Creek Golf Club in Boulder City, Nev.

The senior is one of eight individuals in the field, with just the top two individuals on non-advancing teams qualifying out of each super regional. The full national field includes 20 teams and eight individuals. Scheck will be one of 11 competitors from the MIAA in the 108-man field, with both Central Missouri and Washburn advancing as a team.

Boulder Creek Golf Club is hosting the men's national championship for the first time after hosting the women's event last spring. A 27-hole facility, teams will play the Desert Hawk course for the front nine and Coyote Run track for the back nine. Those 18 holes combine for a par-72, 7,595-yard layout. Live results will be available online via Scoreboard powered by Clippd.

Scheck is scheduled to tee off in the opening round on Monday at 12:15 p.m. (10:15 a.m. PT) and will be in the final grouping of the second round on Tuesday at 3:55 p.m. (1:55 p.m. PT). Tee times in the third and final round will be determined based on scores from the first two rounds. An individual champion will be recognized at the conclusion of the 54-hole stroke play event, while the top eight teams move on to match play to determine a national champion.

A three-time All-MIAA selection, Scheck finished alone in third place out of 116 competitors at the Central/Midwest Regional last week (May 7-9) in Big Rapids, Mich., turning in a score of 2-under 214 which was just three shots back of first place. He placed second out of 36 competitors from the MIAA at the super regional.

The Dodge City, Kan. native lowered his stroke average to 71.79 across 33 rounds, including 19 rounds at-or-under par, eight rounds in the 60s and a low round of 66. He finished in the top 12 in nine of 11 events, including six top 10's, four top five finishes, one victory and one T-1st finish.

Scheck is the first men's golfer in team history and just the second player in FHSU golf history to reach the final national site, joining Hannah Perkins who advanced through regionals to play in the 2017 National Championship.
