Fort Hays State Men's Soccer continues non-conference play this week with one match in Hays and one match in Colorado. The Tigers host William Jewell to wrap up their three-match homestand to open the season on Wednesday (Sept. 2), then travel to Alamosa, Colorado for a neutral site match with Fort Lewis on Sunday (Sept. 6). The Tigers enter the week 1-1 overall.
Tigers Win Battle of Ranked Teams
FHSU won its season opener over Rockhurst last Thursday by a score of 4-1. The Tigers were ranked No. 3 nationally, while the Hawks were No. 13 nationally. The result extended FHSU's win streak over Rockhurst to four-straight matches.
Tripped Up by Rangers
Following the season opening win, the Tigers went scoreless in a 1-0 loss to Regis last Saturday. The Tigers went scoreless just three times last year in their run to the national semifinals, playing to a pair of scoreless ties and just one loss. That loss was in the national semifinal against Rollins. The result snapped a 19-match unbeaten streak for the Tigers on their home turf, which dated back to the 2024 season.
Goal Scorers
Fort Hays State had four different individuals record goals against Rockhurst last week. That group included
Francisco Degiorgi,
Juan Linares,
Filippo Moncada, and
Len Valkema. Degiorgi and Linares each had one assist to go with their goals and are tied for the team lead in points, each with three.
Strong Numbers for Roehrich
Coming off an All-America campaign in 2025, goalkeeper
Payton Roehrich had a solid start to the 2026 season. He played 84 minutes in the win over Rockhurst, holding the Hawks scoreless with three saves. He allowed only one goal to Regis. So far, Roehrich has a 0.52 goals against average and .800 save percentage for the season.
#14 in the Latest National Poll
Fort Hays State moved to No. 14 in this week's United Soccer Coaches Top 25 Poll after the 1-1 start to the season. This is the 17th straight poll that has mentioned Fort Hays State dating back to October 2024, the longest streak in program history. The Tigers have been a staple in the top 25 since their inception 15 years ago, earning a spot amongst the nation's best at least once in 14 of 16 seasons while receiving votes at least once in the other two.
