EMPORIA, Kan. - Fort Hays State fell 3-0 to Emporia State on Sunday (Sept. 20). The Tigers finished with 11 shots, including seven on goal, but Hornet goalkeeper Andrea Guzman stopped all seven to keep the Tigers scoreless. FHSU moved to 2-4-1 overall and 0-2 in the MIAA, while ESU moved to 5-2-1 overall and 2-0 in the MIAA.
Emporia St. scored twice in the opening seven minutes to take a 2-0 lead into halftime. Avery Zimmerman scored at 6:00 before Ella Favot added another goal at 6:27 off an assist from Dahlia Placino. Fort Hays St. recorded five shots in the first half, with all five on goal. FHSU held a 4-1 advantage in corner kicks in the opening half.
Fort Hays State created several chances late in the match, recording three shots between the 77th and 87th minutes, but the Hornets put the match away with Favot's second goal of the match in the 83
rd minute.
Katie Stoskopf played all 90 minutes in goal and finished with three saves for FHSU. FHSU had four different players record two shots each in the match.
Fort Hays State will play its first home match of the season on Friday (Sept. 25) when it hosts Central Missouri at 7 p.m.
