Tigers Shutout Rangers with Pair of Second-Half Goals

ALVA, Okla. - Fort Hays State defeated Northwestern Oklahoma State 2-0 on Saturday evening (Sept. 5). FHSU moved to 2-1 overall for the season and handed Northwestern Oklahoma State its first loss of the season. The Rangers are now 2-1-1 overall.
 
The Tigers scored both of their goals in the second half and finished with 20 shots, including 12 on goal, while holding Northwestern Oklahoma to 11 shots and just four on target.

The Tigers outshot the Rangers 5-4 in the first half and put three attempts on goal to the home side's one. All three Tiger shots on target were after the 40-minute mark.

The Tigers turned second-half pressure into goals, outshooting the Rangers 15-7 after the halftime break. Katie Stoskopf kept the Rangers from scoring with three saves. Ava Wariner broke the scoreless deadlock at 69:37, cleaning up an initial shot from outside the top of the box by Alexa Pereida that was saved. Maddy Spiers added her first collegiate goal at the 79:55 mark after knifing through a pair of defenders to unleash a strike from distance.
 
Taylor Annen recorded 10 saves for the Rangers despite yielding a pair of goals. Stoskopf finished with four saves for the Tigers, notching her first shutout of the season.

Up next, the Tigers travel to the Denver area next weekend, set to face MSU Denver on Friday, September 11 and Colorado Christian on Sunday, September 13.
