Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

No. 14 Tigers Draw with Skyhawks in Neutral Match

ALAMOSA, Colo. – Fort Hays State Men's Soccer played to a 1-1 draw with Fort Lewis in a neutral site match on Sunday (Sept. 6). The No. 14 ranked Tigers took an early 1-0 lead in the match, but unfortunately saw the game leveled on a penalty kick in the 82nd minute. FHSU moved to 2-1-1 overall for the season, while FLC moved to 3-0-1 on the season.

Len Valkema scored the goal for Fort Hays State just over four minutes into the game off a touch at close scoring range from Francisco Degiorgi. The Tigers could not add on later despite Fort Lewis playing a man down due to a red card for the final 28 minutes. A foul in the box produced Fort Lewis' penalty opportunity, cashed in by Simao Agostinho with just over eight minutes to play.

The Skyhawks, receiving votes in the latest national poll, held a 12-8 shot advantage in the match and placed two-thirds of their shots on goal. Payton Roehrich was up to the challenge on all shots on goal in the regular course of play, making a career-high seven saves. However, the one blemish came from the penalty kick.

The Tigers head to Texas next week for matches at West Texas A&M (Sept. 10) and Lubbock Christian (Sept. 12).
