Shad Cox is in his first year as an assistant coach with the Fort Hays State football team. He will help coach the defensive backs in 2015.
Prior to his time at FHSU, Cox was a strength and conditioning coach for Simoneau Sports Performance in Overland Park, Kan., from 2012-2014. He also coached high school football at McLouth High School in McLouth, Kan., from 2012-2013. In 2012, he had an internship as a strength and conditioning coach at the University of Houston.
Cox played collegiately for two years at Dodge City (Kan.) Community College and led the team in tackles one season. He played high school football at Southwestern Heights High School, where he was a two-time all-state selection at safety and an all-conference selection at quarterback.
A native of Plains, Kan., Cox earned a bachelor’s degree in from Washburn University in Exercise Science. He is currently working towards his master’s degree in Sports Administration at Fort Hays State University.
