Zach Burkhart enters his second year as an assistant coach with the Fort Hays State football team in 2016. He will help coach the tight ends for the second straight year.
In his first year as an assistant, Burkhart helped the Tigers to an appearance in the Mineral Water Bowl, the program's first postseason game in 20 years.
Burkhart played football at Pittsburg State University for two seasons (2013-2014). He appeared in a total of 18 games over two years and made three starts. He played his first two seasons of collegiate football at Butler (Kan.) Community College, where he earned all-conference first team and all-region honors as a sophomore.
A native of Mulvane, Kan., Burkhart earned a bachelor’s degree in Recreation Administration from Pittsburg State University in 2015. He is currently working towards his master’s degree in Sports Administration at Fort Hays State University.
