Dr. Tom Johansen is in his fifth season as a volunteer assistant coach with the Fort Hays State men’s golf team in 2025-26.
Johansen previously served as the head men’s golf coach at Fort Hays State for 13 seasons from 1990 until 2003. He also helped establish the women’s golf program at FHSU that played its inaugural season in the fall of 2003.
A two-time graduate of Fort Hays State, Johansen played three seasons for FHSU legend Bob Lowen from 1977-79. He was a freshman on the 1977 squad that won the CSIC conference championship.
Johansen also serves as a Professor of Finance in the Department of Economics, Finance and Accounting at Fort Hays State. Previous stops in his teaching career include Oklahoma State University and the University of Northern Colorado.
He completed an undergraduate degree in Finance at FHSU in 1980, earned an MBA from Fort Hays State in 1981 and received a Ph.D. in Finance from Oklahoma State University in 1990. He and his wife, Vicki, have two children, Elise and Kiley. Kiley was a part of three conference championship teams (one regular season title, two conference tournament victories) with the women’s golf program at Fort Hays State from 2008-12.
