A Phillipsburg, Kan. native, DeBoer played three years of golf at FHSUÂ from 1983-86 for legendary coach Bob Lowen, earning All-District 10 honors after his sophomore and junior seasons. He studied pre-engineering during his time at FHSU before completing his degree at Kansas State University, obtaining a B.S. in Civil Engineering in May 1988.
DeBoer's passion for golf continued after the conclusion of his college career. He has played in many amateur tournaments, highlighted by a trip to the quarterfinals of the 1990 Kansas Amateur and a spot in the round of 16 in 1992. He introduced and taught the game to his daughters, including Taylor, who played for the Tigers from 2016-20. He is a long-time supporter of Tiger athletics, playing in numerous alumni events and representing FHSUÂ at several collegiate team fundraising events.
In addition to his coaching duties, DeBoer is the owner of Penco Engineering, located in Plainville, Kan. He and his wife, Denise, reside in Hays.
