Brian Flax is in his 29th year as the head tennis coach at Fort Hays State University in 2024-25. Flax ranks as the all-time leader in coaching victories at FHSU with 219. Flax is currently the longest tenured head coach at Fort Hays State.

Flax reached a coaching milestone with his 100th victory on April 15, 2006 at Colorado Christian University. He then reached 150 wins on March 5, 2013 at Kansas Wesleyan before winning his 200th match on September 17, 2022 at CSU-Pueblo.

Flax has guided the Tiger tennis team to 10 or more wins nine times. In 1996-97, Flax's first year as head coach, he guided the Tigers to 14 wins. His teams have reached 13 wins three other times and 12 wins twice.

In 2004-05, Flax guided FHSU to a region ranking of eighth, the highest ITA ranking ever for the program in its NCAA Division II history. Flax was Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Co-Coach of the Year along with David Elliott of Mesa State that season. In 1998-99, he guided FHSU to its first-ever regional ranking.

A graduate of Trego Community High School in WaKeeney, Kan., Flax was a two-time all-state selection in tennis and helped lead the Golden Eagles to a state runner-up finish in 1987. After high school he attended Cloud County (Kan.) Community College where he played baseball and tennis. Flax transferred to FHSU where he earned both his bachelor's and master's degrees in Physical Education.

Flax taught at Thomas More Prep-Marian High School in Hays for two years before guiding the FHSU tennis program.
