Brett Meyer is in his seventh year on the cross country/track and field coaching staff in 2025-26. It is his fifth season as an assistant coach after spending two years as a graduate assistant. Meyer works primarily with cross country, middle and long distance athletes. He will help direct the strength and conditioning program for the harriers and work specifically with the middle distance runners.
Meyer completed one of the most successful careers in Tiger Track & Field history. The Scott City native earned six All-America honors in the 800 and 1,500 meters, culminating in a national title at 1,500 meters in 2019. He was the first Tiger to break four minutes in mile while in college, running 3:59.77 during his junior season at the St. Louis Festival of Miles. Meyer was also an 8-time MIAA Champion in the 800 meters, 1,500 meters, mile and distance medley relay. He was a member of the DMR squad that posted the fastest NCAA II time of the 2018 outdoor season in route to a Drake Relays title. He has competed professionally after graduation, appearing in multiple televised races, including the 2024 U.S. Olympic Trials as well as the USATF Championships in 2022, 2023 and 2025. In February of 2021, Meyer broke Jim Ryun's 53-year old Kansas indoor mile record at the Washburn Invitational in Topeka, running a time of 3:58.39.
Meyer is a two-time graduate of Fort Hays State University, completing a master’s degree in Sports Administration and a bachelor’s degree in Health & Human Performance. He resides in Hays with his wife, the former Kelly Wycoff, who is the head assistant coach on the track and field team, and their son, Judah.
