Marty Verhaeghe begins his second season as men's wrestling graduate assistant coach at Fort Hays State University in 2023-24.
Verhaeghe was an All-American in his sixth and final season with the Tigers, placing fifth at 184 pounds at the 2022 NCAA Division II National Championships. He also qualified for Nationals in 2020 before the meet was canceled. He finished fourth or better at four consecutive Super Regionals. The Bucyrus, Kan. native compiled a career record of 130-69, including a 38-7 record in his final season.
Verhaeghe was a three-time state placer at Blue Valley Southwest High School, finishing sixth at 106 pounds as a freshman, fourth at 120 pounds as a junior and fifth as a senior at 126 pounds.
Verhaeghe graduated with a bachelor of science in health and human performance in the spring of 2021 and is currently pursuing a master's degree.
