FHSU Athletics

Nate Hepner is the Director of Sports Medicine at Fort Hays State University. He also serves as the Head Athletic Trainer for the FHSU football team.

Nate started his Athletic Training education at the University of Northern Colorado from 2003-2007, where he graduated with his bachelor's degree. During his undergrad he worked a summer internship position with the Denver Broncos in 2006. Following his time at UNC, Nate continued his education at Fort Hays State University getting his master's in Health and Human Performance while working as a graduate assistant from 2007-2009. After graduating from Fort Hays State, Hepner returned to the Denver Broncos for a full season-long internship for the 2009 NFL season.

Hepner landed his first full-time Assistant Athletic Training at University of Northern Colorado working with football and wrestling from 2010-2015. In 2015 he moved to Connecticut to take the position of Director of Sports Medicine at University of New Haven covering football and men’s basketball for two years. He then returned to Hays and took over as Head Athletic Trainer from 2017-2023 and in 2024 Nate became Director of Sports Medicine. Nate is still the acting Head Athletic Trainer for football.
