Brett Macari earned Athlete of the Week for his performance for the Fort Hays State baseball team. The Tigers have won four straight games and seven of their last eight. FHSU is currently 25-19 and 19-16 in the MIAA.

Macari, who was named MIAA Pitcher of the Week last week, has been stellar in his last two weeks as the Tiger closer. During the Tigers last eight games, Macari has appeared in five games, making four saves and earning one win. In 7.0 innings of work, Macari has a 0.00 ERA with four strikeouts, while allowing two hits and walking one. Opponents only hit .095 in his five appearances. He has a 10-inning scoreless streak, which stretches over his last seven games.

During last week when Macari was named MIAA Pitcher of th Week, Macari appeared in three games and earned a save in each contest. He started his week with a save in a 12-8 win over UNK. Macari went 2.0 innings and struck out two while not allowing a hit. In two games at SBU, Macari earned two more saves in one day. Macari went 0.2 innings in a 4-1 to get the first save. He did not allowed a hit. In game two, Macari went 1.0 inning and allowed one hit in a 5-3 win.

This week Macari earned one save in a 5-3 victory over Wayne State (Neb.). He pitched 1.0 inning and once again did not allow a hit. Macari earned the win in a 17-13 win over Bethany College to up his season record to 3-1. He went 2.1 innings, striking out two and allowing one hit.

For the season, Macari has the lowest ERA of pitchers with more than one inning of work at 1.51. In 15 appearances, all in relief, Macari has a 3-1 record with a team-high seven saves. He has totaled 23.1 innings of work and allowed 14 hits and six runs with only four earned. He has 21 strikeouts and opponents are only hitting .175 against him.

The Tigers are 25-19 and 19-16 in the MIAA. FHSU closes out the regular season with a home four-game series with Missouri Western, which currently sits second in the MIAA standings. Game one of the series starts on Friday (May 4) at 6 p.m. at Larks Park.
