Jordan Hester has been named Athlete of the Week for her performances with the FHSU women's soccer team. The Tigers went 1-0-1 last week, including an impressive 3-1 win over Northwest Missouri State.
Hester, a freshman from Olathe, Kan., scored the first goals in each of the two games, giving her six goals on the season, which ties her for the team high with Sade Humphrey. In the 2-2 tie against Missouri Western, Hester beat the keeper to the left side of the goal for an early 1-0 Tiger lead in the 18th minute. Jordan Shaw scored the second Tiger goal, however, the Griffons put in a late goal to tie the match at 2-2.
In the 3-1 win over NWMSU, Hester scored the first of three straight Tiger goals. After a scoreless first half, Hester put in a goal after a through ball from Joanne Glynn for a 1-0 lead in the 49th minute. Cindy Benitez and Margaret Meier later scored for a 3-0 Tiger advantage. The Bearcats tallied a late score for the 3-1 final.
The Tigers are now 8-5-1 and 4-4-1 in the MIAA. FHSU travels to Missouri this weekend for two road matches. On Friday, the Tigers take on Truman at 12 p.m. then go to Lindenwood on Sunday for a noon tilt.
