Fort Hays State's Christa Bergmann claimed the individual national title in the weight throw on Friday (Mar. 11) at the NCAA Division II Indoor Track and Field Championships in Albuquerque, N.M. The senior from Concordia, Kan., set a new school record for the fourth time this year in the event with a throw of 63 feet, 10.5 inches.
Bergmann has continuously improved in the weight throw all year long. She became the first woman in FHSU history to throw over 60 feet in the event at the Jayhawk Classic in January, when she threw her previous best mark of 60 feet, 10.5 inches. She bested that by three feet in the indoor finale on Friday. She adds this championship to her MIAA Championship in the event two weeks ago.
