Fort Hays State redshirt-freshman Mitchell Means finished his season with a fourth-place finish and All-American honors at the NCAA Division II National Wrestling Championships. The 149-pounder from Goddard, Kansas, followed up a championship semifinal loss with an 8-3 win over fifth-ranked Jacob Horn of St. Cloud State. The win earned placement in the consolation final round.

In the third-place bout, Means was paired with returning All-American Nate Herda of Augustana College. Means opened the match with a slick slide-by from a collar tie near the edge of the mat to score a takedown, but shortly thereafter gave up an escape. Herda then scored a takedown of his own to end the period with a 3-2 lead.

Means closed his season with a 34-11 mark, but was an impressive 22-6 against NCAA Division II opponents. Each of the in-division losses were to wrestlers ranked in the top four of the final poll of the season.
