Benitez Scores 2, Tigers Win 4-0 over MWSU

Cindy Benitez scored two goals and added two assists in a 4-0 romp over Missouri Western on Saturday (Oct. 22) at the FHSU Soccer Stadium in Hays. The four goals was a season-high for Fort Hays State and the shutout is their third on the season.
 
Benitez scored the first Tiger goal at 36:28 on a shot from slightly left of center in the box, beating the goalkeeper for the 1-0 advantage. On the Tigers' second goal, Benitez made a nice pass to Becca Andres, who hit a strike to the left side on the goal, her second goal of the year. The Tigers had a 2-0 lead after 39 minutes and went into halftime up 2-0.
 
The Tigers jumped on the Griffons early in the second half scoring twice almost two minutes apart. Benitez tallied her second of the game, and sixth on the season, at 53:31 on a free kick from about 20-yards away. Joanne Glynn scored the final Tiger goal at 55:35 on a shot from the left side 18-yards out. Glynn now has a team-high eight goals this season.
 
FHSU dominated in shots, outshooting the Griffons 21-5 in the game.
 
Kelsey Grey had the shutout in goal for the Tigers, stopping two Griffon shots in 90 minutes.
 
The win upped the Tigers record to 5-10-1 overall and 2-6 in the MIAA. FHSU still has a chance to make the MIAA Tournament as the sixth seed.
 
The Tigers continue their homestand with a Tuesday game against Northeastern State at 6 p.m. at the FHSU Soccer Stadium.
