FHSU Ends Season with 2-0 Win over Washburn

Fort Hays State scored two first half goals en route to a 2-0 win over visiting Washburn in non-conference action on Saturday night (Oct. 29) at the FHSU Soccer Stadium in Hays. The win was the home finale for the Tigers in their inaugural season. With the victory, the Tigers upped their record to 6-11-1 on the season.
 
Fort Hays took the lead less than two minutes into the contest, scoring at 1:56 when Rachel Wiesen received a beautiful pass from Joanne Glynn and sent the shot to the left side of the Washburn goalkeeper.
 
The Tigers doubled their lead to 2-0 when Joanne Glynn scored her team-high ninth goal of the season. Jamie Babyak sent in a free kick from about midfield that Margaret Meier knocked over to Glynn who scored on the right side of the box.
 
The second half went scoreless for both teams. In the full 90 minutes, the Tigers outshot the Lady Blues 15-7. FHSU totaled 10 first half shots and five more in the second half. Washburn finished with six in the first and just one in the second 45 minutes.
 
Kelsey Grey made three saves in the shutout, her fourth of the season and second in the last two games. Her record is 6-11-1 on the season.
 
The win ends the season for the Tigers as FHSU missed the MIAA Tournament by one point, finishing seventh in the standings. Only the top six teams make the tournament. Emporia State passed the Tigers today by beating Missouri Western and grabbing the final tournament spot.
 
The Tigers finished their inaugural season with a 6-11-1 record overall and 2-6 in the MIAA.
