The Fort Hays State women's soccer team allowed three first half goals, including two goals within 30 seconds as the Tigers fell, 3-1, to visiting Southwest Baptist on Tuesday (Oct. 4) afternoon at the FHSU Soccer Stadium in Hays.
In a very windy match with strong gusts, the visiting Bearcats scored all three of their goals with the wind at their backs. The first SBU goal occurred on a misplayed ball by the Tigers. A FHSU defender misplayed a ball in the strong wind, allowing the ball to go into the FHSU goal. The score happened at 11:43 to put SBU up 1-0.
The Tigers tied the game back up, scoring at 17:38 on a shot off the foot of
Joanne Glynn, her team-leading fifth of the season. A
Hailey Davey pass set up the Glynn goal.
SBU took the lead for good with goals 30 seconds apart. The first goal came at 39:10 when Jade Barnden knocked in a cross by Caitlin Suerig. The Bearcats doubled their lead on a Merene Gomez goal to push the score to 3-1 in favor of SBU.
The Tigers had their opportunities in the second half with the wind at their backs, but FHSU could not knock in another goal for the final 3-1 score.
FHSU travels on the road for their next two contests. On Thursday (Oct. 6), the Tigers go to Emporia, Kan. to take on Emporia State at 4 p.m. FHSU travels to Missouri Southern on Saturday (Oct. 8) for an 11 a.m. game
