The Fort Hays State women's soccer team scored three first half goals en route to a 3-2 victory on the road at Emporia State on Friday (Oct. 6) in Emporia, Kan. The win is the first MIAA victory for the Tigers, improving their record to 1-3 in the MIAA and 4-6-1 overall.
Fort Hays took a commanding 3-0 lead late in the first half, scoring three goals less than eight minutes apart.
Becca Andres started the scoring in the 27
th minute, heading in a shot that bounced off the post from
Nicole Randall.
Junior forward
Cindy Benitez scored her third goal of the season, on a rebound off a shot from Andres to give the Tigers a 2-0 advantage.
Hailey Davey scored soon after on a pass from
Margaret Meier to up the advantage to 3-0 just 35 minutes into the game.
The host Hornets tried to close the gap, however, ESU notched only two second half goals. Ashley Hill scored unassisted in the 49
th minute and Jessica Decker scored in the 84
th minute.
Kelsey Grey notched the win in goal for the Tigers, totaling 10 saves while allowing the two goals. Her record is now 4-6-1 on the season.
The Tigers continue MIAA play on the road at Missouri Southern on Saturday (Oct. 8) at 11 a.m.
