The Fort Hays State Tigers scored five goals in the first 60 minutes to roar past the University of Winnipeg on Saturday (Nov. 5) at the USF Sanford Health Sports Complex in Sioux Falls, S.D.
Ricardo Yeverino and
Diego Cabral both had two goals apiece to pace the Tigers scoring. Cabral added a game-high two assists.
Yeverino gave the Tigers a 1-0 advantage in the 21
st minute of the game, scoring off a pass from Cabral. Cabral added his first goal eight minutes later in the 29
th minute on a penalty kick. The first 45 minutes of action ended with the Tigers up 2-0.
The Tigers wasted little time scoring in the second half, as FHSU added three more goals less than 15 minutes into the second half. Cabral scored his second goal of the game in the 53
rd minute with Yeverino setting up the goal with his pass for a 3-0 Tiger lead. Less than five minutes later, Yeverino notched his second goal with the assist coming from
Tanner Brock, his first assist of the season.
Tomas Mares added the final Tiger tally to give FHSU the 5-0 score in the 60
th minute.
Yeverino now has a team-high 15 goals on the season for the Tigers. He adds four assists for 34 points, another team-high. Cabral's two goals tie him for second on the team with five on the season. Cabral totals a team-high 12 assists on the year, including two in today's game. Yeverino is second in assists with four.
Ryan Pakieser recorded his fourth shutout of the season, upping his record to 9-3-2 on the season. Pakieser made five saves in the shutout win.
FHSU moved to 11-4-2 on the season, their first in school history. The Tigers play their season finale tomorrow against NCAA Division II No. 1 Simon Fraser at 3:30 p.m.
