No. 1 Simon Fraser Edges out Tigers, 2-1, on Late PK

Playing in their season finale, Fort Hays State men's soccer allowed a late goal, falling to Simon Fraser, the No. 1 in NCAA Division II men's soccer, on Sunday (Nov.6) in Sioux Falls, S.D. The Tigers finished its inaugural season with a 11-5-2 record, highlighted by a 10-game unbeaten streak.
 
Simon Fraser scored the game-winning goal in the 87th minute on a penalty kick from Josh Bennett, lifting the No. 1 team to the 2-1 win.
 
The Tigers fell behind 1-0 in the 23rd minute when Simon Fraser scored off a header from Carlo Basso on a cross from Chris Bargholz.
 
A strong second half helped the Tigers pull even with SFU. The score was deadlocked at 1-1 after Patrick Brennan scored his first goal of the season in the 63rd minute. Ricardo Yeverino led Brennan who beat the goalkeeper to the left corner of the net. The assist was Yeverino's fifth of the season.
 
In the second 45 minutes, the Tigers seemed to control the game, outshooting Simon Fraser 9-6. The first half was much different with SFU totaling 10 shots to one shot for the Tigers.
 
Ryan Pakieser made six saves for the Tigers, while allowing the two goals.
 
The Tigers finished the 2011 season 11-5-2, including a 10-game unbeaten streak. The 2011 season was the first in school history for FHSU men's soccer.
