Lady Tigers to Tangle with Pittsburg State

Game Notes  I  Watch Live  I  Listen Live  I  Live Stats

The Fort Hays State women's basketball team is entering the final week of the regular season, which features a pair of matchups against in-state foes. The first of those comes on Wednesday night (Feb. 23) with a trip to Pittsburg State to face the Gorillas.

With two games left to play in the regular season, the Lady Tigers are tied with Truman for 8th in the MIAA conference standings. The top 8 teams in the conference qualify for the MIAA postseason tournament in Kansas City, but Truman holds the tiebreaker over Fort Hays State since they claimed a season sweep of the Lady Tigers. Pittsburg State sits at fifth in the MIAA and defeated FHSU 53-42 earlier this season in Hays. Fort Hays State needs to win the game and get some help in order to stay alive for postseason contention.

For the past 10 games, the Lady Tigers have been led in scoring by either Traci Keyser or Crista Bechard. Both players had 14 points on Saturday in the loss to Missouri Southern. Keyser leads the team in scoring at 11.3 points per game and Bechard is right behind, averaging 10.9 points per contest.

Kara Champlin leads Fort Hays State in rebounding, pulling down 6.7 boards per contest. She has grabbed a combined 23 rebounds over the past two games, including her first career double-double of 12 points and 12 rebounds against Southwest Baptist.

Drew Roberts is the top scorer for Pittsburg State averaging 11.8 points per game. No other players average double figures for the Gorillas, but three players average between eight and nine points per contest.
