Overtime Goal Downs Women’s Soccer, 2-1

The FHSU women's soccer team suffered a 2-1 overtime loss on the road against UC-Colorado Springs on Sunday (Sept. 11) afternoon at Mountain Lion Stadium in Colorado Springs, Colo. The host Mountain Lions scored less than two minutes into overtime to take the win from the Tigers.

After falling behind 1-0, FHSU notched the equalizer at 54:17. Cindy Benitez's shot was blocked by UCCS goalkeeper Kelly Schroeder, but Rachel Wiesen was there to kick in the rebound for the Tigers. Benitez was credited with the assist on the Wiesen goal.

The game would remain tied after 90 minutes of regulation. In the golden goal overtime, UCCS scored the game winner at 91:53 to pull out the 2-1 win. The Mountain Lions' Julia Saenz scored the game-winner.

UCCS scored their first goal at 38:01 when Hannah Levett put a header by FHSU goalkeeper Kelsey Grey.

The Mountain Lions outshot the Tigers in the game, 15-10, including totaling two overtime shots to zero for FHSU. UCCS also held the second half edge in shots at nine to six.

The loss drops the Tigers record to 1-3 on the season and ends a three-game road trip. FHSU returns home on Thursday (Sept. 15) for a 6 p.m. matchup against Emporia State at the FHSU Soccer Stadium.
