The Tigers women's soccer team was shutout, 2-0, on the road at Washburn on Saturday night (Sept. 17) at Yager Stadium in Topeka, Kan. The match was the first MIAA conference game for the Tigers.
The two teams were deadlock at 0-0 after 45 minutes as both teams struggled to generate any offense. FHSU totaled three first half shots, while Washburn notched two shots.
The second half featured more offense. First, Washburn broke the 0-0 score as Caysie Beetley kicked a shot into the goal from 10 yards out at 78:14. Just seven minutes later, the host team struck again, scoring at 85:13 on a shot by Leah Talley.
The second half saw both teams find more scoring opportunities, as FHSU had six shots, while Washburn outdid the Tigers with eight, including the two goals.
Kelsey Grey started in goal for the Tigers, going all 90 minutes and making one save. Her record is now 1-4-1 on the season.
The Tigers drop to 1-4-1 on the season and 0-1 in the MIAA. FHSU returns home for a non-conference match with McPherson College on Tuesday (Sept. 20) at the FHSU Soccer Stadium at 8 p.m.
