Tiger Soccer Knocks off McPherson, 3-0

The Tigers dominated from start to finish in a 3-0 win over visiting McPherson College on Tuesday night (Sept. 20) at the FHSU Soccer Stadium in Hays.

The Tigers got on the scoreboard in the 32nd minute, as freshman Jamie Babyak scored off a free kick from about 30 yards away. Her shot went over the top of the McPherson goalkeeper to give the Tigers the 1-0 lead and Babyak her first goal of the season.

Cindy Benitez was the next Tiger to get in on the scoring attack. The junior knocked in a rebounded shot from Joanne Glynn to put the Tigers up 2-0 in the 50th minute.

The final goal came from Amy Phipps, scoring in the 85th minute on another rebound off the McPherson keeper. Becca Andres picked up the assist on the goal.

The Tigers dominated in shots with 22 in the game, compared to just six from the Bulldogs. FHSU also had more corner kicks at 7-2 and fouls at 17-6.

Kelsey Grey improved her record to 2-4-1 for the Tigers in goal. She totaled two saves in 90 minutes of play.

FHSU upped their record to 2-4-1 on the season. The Tigers return to the road this Saturday (Sept. 24) at Missouri Western in a non-conference match between the two MIAA schools. Kickoff is scheduled for 11 a.m.
