After notching back-to-back non-conference victories, the Tigers return to MIAA action on Saturday (Oct. 1) against Truman at the FHSU Soccer Stadium. FHSU has won two straight and looks to extend their streak against the visiting Bulldogs. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m.
The Tigers are coming off two straight wins. FHSU defeated MIAA opponent Missouri Western last Saturday (Sept. 24) 2-1 in a scheduled non-conference game. Prior to that win, the Tigers defeated McPherson College 3-0 at home on Tuesday, Sept. 20. With the two-game winning streak, the Tigers are now 3-4-1 coming into the Truman game.
Forwards
Joanne Glynn and
Cindy Benitez both had great week in the two wins. Glynn tallied two goals in the victory over Missouri Western, giving her a team-high four on the season. She added one assist in the McPherson game, giving her nine total points, also a team high. Benitez is right behind Glynn with eight points this season. The junior had assists on both of Glynn's goals in the win over Missouri Western and added a goal in the 3-0 triumph against McPherson.
Goalkeeper
Kelsey Grey recorded her second shutout of the season in the McPherson game, while only allowing one goal in the win over Missouri Western. The freshman keeper has started every game for the Tigers, allowing just 1.21 goals a game with 39 total saves in the eight games.
The Bulldogs enter the matchup with an overall record of 3-4-2 and 1-0 in the MIAA, knocking off Missouri Southern, 2-1, in overtime to give them the one MIAA win. Although Truman is 1-0 in MIAA play, the Bulldogs have also played MIAA schools Northwest Missouri, Central Missouri and Southwest Baptist in non-conference games. Truman defeated Southwest Baptist 3-2 in overtime, lost to Central Missouri 2-0 and tied Northwest Missouri 0-0.
Truman's offense is led by sophomore forward Trisha Shoemaker, who has scored a team-high four goals for the Bulldogs. Junior forward Olivia Hayes adds three goals and one assist to the offensive attack. Seven different Bulldogs have scored in Truman's nine goals thus far, as the team averages 1.44 goals per game.
Senior Jayne Grisham logged the majority of minute in goal for the Bulldogs, totaling 643 minutes in nine games. Grisham allowed 14 goals in nine games for a 1.96 goals against average. Sophomore Emily Bozdeck has also made an appearance in five games, logging 229 minutes in goal. Bozdeck has allowed four goals for a 1.57 goals against average.
The game is the first home MIAA conference match for the Tigers this season and in their short history. Saturday's game is the first of six straight MIAA conference contests for FHSU.
