The Lady Tigers defeated Newman 1-0 on Saturday (Sept. 3) night in their inaugural game in school history at the FHSU Soccer Stadium in Hays. Margaret Meier scored the first goal in the history of the women's program to give FHSU the 1-0 win.
The goal came off a free kick at midfield from Jamie Babyak. Meier headed the kick off the crossbar and the ball bounced into the goal in the 34th minute.
The Lady Tigers out-shot the Jets 20-11 in the contest, including a 7-1 advantage in the first half. In a physical game, FHSU had 22 fouls to the Jets 13.
Kelsey Grey was the winning goalkeeper for the Lady Tigers. She finished the game with seven saves on the 11 Newman shots.
The Lady Tigers now take to the road on Monday (Sept. 5), where FHSU plays Nebraska-Kearney at 7 p.m. in Kearney, Neb.
