The Fort Hays State volleyball team was in action at the UTPB Volleyball Classic on Friday (Sept. 30) in Odessa, Texas. The Tigers dropped the first match against Cameron in four sets before rebounding with a four-set win over Southern Arkansas.

Fort Hays State struggled in the tournament opener against Cameron as the Aggies took the match in four sets. The Tigers hit .206 for the match with 61 kills and 27 hitting errors.
Kylee Hoagland led the attack for FHSU with 16 kills followed by
Madison Schwartz with 11. Reigning MIAA Specialist of the Week
Kayla Zoglman had 40 assists in the match while
Tracie Hileman led the team with 15 digs. Hoagland and
Camille Hubert each had three block assists for the Tigers.

Hoagland had another strong match in the Tigers second of the day, pacing the team with a season-high 18 kills to go along with four blocks (two solo, two assist). Schwartz was in double figures in kills for the second time on the day, adding 12, while
Jenna Ulrich put down 10. Zoglman set up the offense with 47 kills while
Makenzie Weinman led the Tigers defense with 14 digs. Hileman added 13 digs while
Sara Hewson had 11. Fort Hays State hit .215 for the match, but held Southern Arkansas to a hitting percentage of just .095.
Fort Hays State moves to 10-7 on the year, giving them double digit wins for the first time since 2007. They finish up the tournament tomorrow (Oct. 1) with matches against Oklahoma-Panhandle State and Texas-Permian Basin.
