The Lady Tigers gave up two second-half goals, falling to Nebraska-Kearney, 2-1, on the road Monday night (Sept.5) at the Ron & Carol Cope Stadium in Kearney, Neb. The loss is the first in the short history of the FHSU women's soccer program.
Sophomore Joanne Glynn gave the Lady Tigers an early 1-0 lead, scoring on a breakaway in the ninth minute. The goal was the first of the year for Glynn. Cindy Benitez notched the assist on the score.
Nebraska-Kearney tallied the next two goals, less than 15 minutes apart, to seal the win for the Lopers. Morgan Abert scored first to tie the game at 1-1 in the 62nd minute, and Raliegh Mercer scored the game-winner for the host team in the 76th minute.
Kelsey Grey was the losing goalkeeper for FHSU, making five saves in 90 minutes of play. She is now 1-1 on the season for the Lady Tigers.
The Lady Tigers fall to 1-1 on the season and continue their three-game road trip with a visit to Colorado Christian on Friday (Sept. 9) in Lakewood, Colo. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m.
