No. 17 Tigers Look to Bounce Back this Weekend on the Road

The No. 17 Tigers take to the road for the first two matches of a four-match MIAA road trip. Fort Hays State travels northeast to Kirksville, Mo. for a 3 p.m. matchup with Truman on Thursday (Oct. 10) then goes north to Fayette, Iowa to take on Upper Iowa on Friday (Oct. 11) at 3 p.m.
 
The Tigers, currently 8-3-1 and 4-1 in the MIAA, which ties them for second in the standings, went 0-1-1 last week in two nonconference matches. FHSU was shutout by Eastern New Mexico, 2-0, on Friday (Oct. 5) then tied No. 11 West Texas A&M, 2-2, on Sunday (Oct. 7).
 
Diego Cabral scored both goals in the 2-2 tie to put him at six goals for the season. The 2011 All-American is second on the team in goals and adds two assists. Tomas Mares continues to lead the Tigers with seven goals. Micheal Cole and Daniel Peralta tie for third on the team with five goals. Tanner Brock totals a team high five assists, and Austin Clifton has four.
 
The Bulldogs are currently 6-4-1 and 3-1-1 in the MIAA. In MIAA play, TSU has wins against Upper Iowa (2-1), SBU (2-0) and Harding (3-1). The loss is against Northeastern State (4-0), and the Bulldogs tied Lindenwood (2-2). The Truman offense is led by Andy Chapman with a team-high eight goals in 11 matches. Matt Langley and Tony Luedecke have three goals each, and Charlie Backus is the only other Bulldog with multiple goals with two. Backus has a team-high nine assists.
 
Upper Iowa is 4-8 overall and 1-4 in the MIAA. The one conference win was against SBU, 3-2, in Bolivar. The Peacocks average less than one goal a match at 0.99 and allow 1.82 goals a match. Rafael Pedroso and Jason Bishop each total three goals to lead the offense. Alejandro Castaneda leads in assists with three. In goal, Jordan Bell has started all 12 matches, making 75 saves and allowing 1.86 goals a game.
 
After this weekend, FHSU travels to Northeastern State and Harding to end its four-match road trip.
