Box Score The Fort Hays State volleyball team had its six-match win streak snapped on Friday evening (Oct. 12) in Hays at the hands of Lindenwood (13-8, 3-4 MIAA). The Lions pulled out set one 25-23, then rolled to a 25-15 win in game two. The Tigers had two set points in the third set and could not push the match to a fourth set, falling 30-28. FHSU is now 18-7 overall and 4-4 in the MIAA.
The Tigers struggled with their attack all night, hitting just .059 in the first set and .043 in the second set, compared to .182 and .237 by Lindenwood. The Tigers finally put down 18 kills in the third set, but Lindenwood was up to the challenge with 19 and still outhit the Tigers .212 to .182.
Sara Hewson led the Tigers with 10 kills and
Jenna Ulrich and
Kylee Hoagland each added eight.
Kayla Zoglman had 30 assists and
Madison Schwartz led the Tigers in digs with 14. Hewson finished with a double-double, also producing 12 digs.
Kayla Guyot led Lindenwood with 12 kills, followed by Katie Weber with 10. Emma Brydels had 37 assists and Kaila Schrimpf had a team-high 19 digs. The Lions played tough defense all night, outdigging the Tigers by 19 (66-47) and had 10 blocks compared to eight for FHSU.
Fort Hays State looks to rebound against a tough Truman (17-4, 6-2 MIAA) squad on Saturday. The Bulldogs just knocked off No. 1 Nebraska-Kearney in Kearney on Friday night in four sets. The Bulldogs come to Hays on an eight-match win streak.
