Tigers Fall to Truman in Straight Sets

Box Score The Fort Hays State volleyball team fell to Truman in straight sets on Saturday (Oct. 13) at Gross Memorial Coliseum in Hays. Truman improved to 18-4 overall and 7-2 in the MIAA with the win, while FHSU moved to 18-8 overall and 4-5 in the MIAA.

Truman cruised to the victory, winning the first set by five, the second by 12, and the third by seven. The Bulldogs hit .225 as a team for the match, while holding the Tigers to a .062 hitting percentage for the match. Truman ran its match winning streak to nine after knocking off the nation's No. 1 team, Nebraska-Kearney, the night before on the road.

FHSU saw its six-match win streak come to an end on Friday night and has now dropped two straight. FHSU was led in kills by Sara Hewson with eight, followed by Mallory Flagor with six. Jenna Ulrich and Taylor Mares each had five. Kayla Zoglman recorded 22 assists and Tara Hoekman had a team-high 13 digs. Zoglman had a double-double for the match with 11 digs.

Megan Sharpe led the Truman attack with 12 kills, hitting .476 for the match. Abby Heise was right behind with 11 kills. Meghan Zimmerman had 29 assists and Abby Moser led the Bulldogs in digs with 14.

Fort Hays State turns its focus to a doubleheader on Tuesday night against York College in non-conference action. The matches are set to begin at 5:30 pm at Gross Memorial Coliseum. A pair of wins would give FHSU its first 20-win season since 2004.
