Fort Hays State looks for its first win at home this season when it hosts Lincoln University in the MIAA Television Network Game of the Week on Saturday at Lewis Field Stadium in Hays. The broadcast is set to start at 2:30 pm with kickoff at 2:37 pm. FHSU enters at 2-5 overall and 2-5 in the MIAA, while Lincoln is 1-6 overall and 1-6 in the MIAA.
Both teams are looking for their second consecutive win after each won last week. Lincoln picked up its first win of the season over Nebraska-Kearney at home, while the Tigers picked up their second win of the season in overtime at Southwest Baptist in the MIAA Television Network Game of the Week. This will be the second straight week the Tigers are on television.
Fort Hays State has scored 37 points in each of its wins this year. The Tigers have scored 20 or less in all five of their losses. Lincoln is allowing an average of 40.9 points per game.
Quarterback
Tarean Austin produced season highs in passing yards (271), completions (22), passing attempts (39) and passing touchdowns (3) at Southwest Baptist last week.
Anthony Sheppard entered for the final two plays of regulation for FHSU and connected with
Cornelius Gallon from eight yards out on the game-tying touchdown pass that forced overtime. Austin returned in overtime to throw the game-winning pass to
Tanner Hageman from seven yards out. The Tigers had a season-high 279 yards through the air against the Bearcats.
With three touchdown receptions against SBU last week, Gallon became the first Tiger with three receiving touchdowns in a game since O.J. Murdock had three against East Central in 2010. Gallon also became the first Tiger with at least 100 receiving yards in a game this year with 155 on nine catches. The last to go over 100 was
Anthony Smith at Central Oklahoma last year.
Shaun Ohlde did a great job filling in at running back for the Tigers with 91 yards on 29 carries at SBU last week. He helped the Tigers continue a run of four games with at least 150 yards rushing.
Layton Hickel continues to lead the Tiger defense in tackles with 59 for the season.
Austin Hubert is second with 54.
Basil Bandy is the team leader in sacks with 3.0.
Keke Paul is the team leader in interceptions with two.
Jacob Morris is the top passer for Lincoln at quarterback with 931 yards and seven touchdowns. Lewis Larson has also contributed in a big way at quarterback with 547 yards and three touchdowns. Morris averages an interception per game with seven this year. Maurice Woodard is the top receiving threat with 38 catches for 497 yards and five touchdowns. The Lincoln offense has mixed the pass and run quite evenly this year with 259 passing plays and 242 rushing plays.
Fort Hays State enters this game with a four-game win streak over the Blue Tigers, which dates back to 1985. FHSU won 24-21 last year in Jefferson City.
