Fort Hays State volleyball ran its win streak to four matches with a 3-1 win at Southwest Baptist on Saturday afternoon (Oct. 20) in Bolivar, Mo. The Tigers cruised to a two-set lead before the Bearcats took the third set, but the Tigers closed out the match with a 25-22 win in the fourth set. FHSU moved to 22-8 overall and 6-5 in the MIAA with the win.
FHSU cruised by scores of 25-14 and 25-16 in the first two sets, but the Bearcats kept the Tigers from a straight-set win by hitting .302 in the third set. Up 23-21 in the fourth,
Jenna Ulrich closed out the match for FHSU with a pair of kills.
After struggling the night before at Missouri Southern, Ulrich returned to her dominant form in the middle with 19 kills and just one error on 32 attempts. She hit .562 for the match, posting her season high in kills.
Madison Schwartz had her second straight solid match with 14 kills and a .300 hitting percentage on the outside.
Kylee Hoagland (12) and
Taylor Mares (11) also reached double figures in kills and each hit over .300 in the match.
Schwartz posted a double-double for the second straight match with 19 digs to go with her 14 kills.
Kayla Zoglman also had a great double-double effort with a team-high 54 assists and 22 digs.
Makenzie Weinman added 21 digs and
Sara Hewson had 11 digs.
FHSU hit .266 for the match, which tied their highest percentage in a conference match this season. The Tigers also hit .266 against Missouri Western at home last week.
Jordan Nedbalek led SBU with 12 kills, followed by Jenna Isaacs with 11. Whitney Miller had 20 assists for the Bearcats and Kaitlyn Allison had a team-best 19 digs.
FHSU closes out its current three-match road trip at Nebraska-Kearney on Tuesday evening in Kearney, Neb.
