Box Score The Fort Hays State women's soccer team scored four straight goals and cruised to a 5-1 win over Nebraska-Kearney on Senior Night at the FHSU Soccer Stadium on Friday night (Oct. 26). The Tigers clinched a spot in the MIAA tournament and finished their MIAA schedule with a 6-5-1 record. Overall, FHSU is now 10-6-1.
Joanne Glynn made it 1-0 Tigers early in the seventh minute on a shot that went to the right corner over the UNK goalkeeper on a shot from the left side.
The Lopers needed only 2 minutes to knot the score at 1-1 on a shot in the ninth minute.
It was all Tigers after that as FHSU scored four straight goals. Freshman
Kylee Loneker knocked in a cross from
Alexis Aiman for a 2-1 advantage in the 34th minute. The Tigers lead 2-1 after the first half.
Jamie Babyak started the second half scoring with a goal off a corner kick from
Nicole Randall in the 58th minute to make it 3-1. Nine minutes later in the 67th minute,
Cindy Benitez stole the ball from a UNK defender at midfield and scored a breakaway goal to put FHSU up 4-1. The Tigers final goal came from
Hailey Davey as
Alexis Aiman found her with a pass on a run down the left side.
The Tigers totaled 10 shots in the match, including seven in the second half. Nebraska-Kearney finished with nine shots.
Nicole Barnaba improved to 6-2-1 in goal, making two saves and allowing one goal.
FHSU ends the regular season on Sunday (Oct. 28) against Western State at 11 a.m. at the FHSU Soccer Stadium.
