Women’s Soccer Looks to Extend Winning Streak this Weekend

The Fort Hays State women's soccer team travels to Oklahoma for two MIAA matches this weekend. The Tigers go to Edmond, Okla. on Friday (Oct. 5) for a 4 p.m. match against No. 24 Central Oklahoma then travel to Northeastern State in Tahlequah, Okla. for an 11 a.m. tilt on Sunday (Oct. 7).
 
The Tigers are on a three-match winning streak and are now 7-3 and 3-2 in the MIAA. Last week, FHSU went 3-0 with shutout wins over Friends (6-0) and Emporia State (2-0), plus a 3-1 victory over Washburn. Sade Humphrey earned MIAA Women's Soccer Athlete of the Week after the 3-0 week. The senior forward from Salina, Kan. scored four goals in the three wins. She scored two in the win against Friends and one each against WU and ESU. Humphrey had the game-winning goals in the matches against Friends and Emporia State, the first goals of each game in the shutout wins.
 
Humphrey's strong week pushed her to six goals on the season, a team high. Jordan Hester has four goals, and Alexis Aiman has three goals and adds a team-high five assists. Nicole Barnaba has been strong in goal for FHSU, allowing only 0.33 goals per match with a .926 save percentage. She is 5-1 with four shutouts in six starts.
 
No. 23 Central Oklahoma, currently 9-1-1 and 4-0-1, went 1-0-1 last week with a 1-0 win over Missouri Western and a 1-1 tie to Northwest Missouri State. Brittni Walker leads the Bronchos in goals and assists at seven and four, respectively. Kimberly Linder and Stephanie Fleig add four goals each. In goal Meagan Burke has a 0.79 goals against average with three shutouts. She has a .849 save percentage with 45 saves. This Friday is the first meeting between the two programs.
 
Northeastern State is 7-2 and 3-2 in the MIAA. Last weekend, the Riverhawks went 1-1 with a 3-1 win over Missouri Western and a 3-0 loss to Northwest Missouri State. NSU has lost two of its last three matches after dropping a 4-2 match to Truman in that stretch. In only five matches, Rachel Sordahl leads the Riverhawks with eight goals. Emily Voges and Elizabeth Cudjoe both add four goals with Cudjoe notching a team-high five assists. In goal Hannah Brudzinski has a 1.22 goals against average and a .625 save percentage with 10 saves. This is the second meeting between the two teams as NSU won 3-1 in Hays on Oct. 25, 2011.
 
The Tigers return home after this weekend for two MIAA matches against Missouri Western and Northwest Missouri State on Thursday (Oct. 11) and Saturday (Oct. 13).
