Hester’s Golden Goal in Double Overtime Advances Tigers to the MIAA Championship

Box Score Freshman forward Jordan Hester scored the game-winning golden goal in double overtime to give the Tigers a 2-1 victory over No. 2 seed Central Oklahoma on Friday night (Nov. 2) at the South Recreation Complex in Warrensburg, Mo. Fort Hays State (13-6-1) advances to play No. 1 seed Central Missouri on Sunday (Nov. 4) at 1 p.m. at the South Recreation Complex in Warrenburg, Mo.
 
After a scoreless first half, the Bronchos took a 1-0 advantage on a goal in the 54th minute. UCO's Kate Foran knocked in a rebounded shot off the crossbar.
 
The lead lasted less than 3 minutes as freshman Alexis Aiman, who was named All-MIAA Second Team today, scored the equalizer in the 57th minute on a shot from the left of the box about 15 yards out.
 
The score remained 1-1 for the final 33 minutes of regulation.  The match went to a golden goal overtime of two 10 minute periods. After a scoreless first overtime, the match went to the second overtime.
 
In the second overtime, Hester scored the game-winning goal in the 107th minute. She received a pass from sophomore defender Jamie Babyak and put in the goal from just inside the box.
 
Nicole Barnaba went the full 106:01 in goal, making six saves and allowing the one goal. She is now 8-2-1 on the season.
 
The Tigers advance to the MIAA Championship against No. 1 seed Central Missouri on Sunday (Nov. 4) at 1 p.m. in Warrensburg, Mo. at the South Recreation Complex.
