The Fort Hays State women's soccer team plays in the championship match of the MIAA Tournament Championship on Sunday afternoon (Nov. 4) at 1 pm in Warrensburg, Mo. FHSU, the No. 6 seed in the eight-team tournament, takes on No. 1 seed Central Missouri. FHSU is looking for redemption after falling to UCM 1-0 earlier this year in Hays on a goal with 15 seconds remaining in the match.
Fort Hays State has carved a path to the finals by defeating the No. 3 seed Truman 1-0 on its home field back on Tuesday in Kirksville, Mo., and then took out No. 2 seed Central Oklahoma on Friday night in double overtime by a count of 2-1 in Warrensburg.
A win for the Tigers on Sunday would give them an automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament, but a loss likely ends their season as they were not referenced in the Top 10 of the latest NCAA Central Region Rankings on October 31. Truman was No. 8 in the latest region rankings and Central Oklahoma was No. 2. Central Missouri is the top ranked team in the region.
The Tigers have seen a big turnaround from their inaugural season of 2011, when they went 6-11-1. FHSU enters this match at 13-6-1 overall, looking to give the school its first MIAA Championship in the sport's second year of existence.
