McPhail and Brown Earn All-Region Awards

After earning a nod to the 2012 Division II Outdoor Track & Field Championships, Holly Brown and Makayla McPhail both earned All-Region honors, announced by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) today (May 15). The top five from each region in individual events and each member of a relay ranked in the region's top three have earned the All-Region distinction for the 2012 outdoor season.

McPhail earned All-Region in the javelin throw with a region-best mark of 159-4 at the MIAA Championship. The mark is also the second-best in the nation, behind only Brittany Aanstad of Seattle Pacific, who has the top mark of 161-11. McPhail broke the new model javelin school record this season, breaking Regina Taylor's 1999 mark of 158-7.

Brown top five mark in the javelin also earned her All-Region. Her best throw of 140-2, which occurred at the Fort Hays State Open, is 15th in Division II this season and qualified her for the Division II Outdoor Track & Field Championships.

A total of 1,274 athletes receive 1,854 USTFCCCA All-Region nods. The USTFCCCA regions match those used for NCAA Cross Country Championships.

In the team count, Grand Valley State picked up the most honors on the women's side with 32, followed by Lincoln (Mo.) (26) and Southern Connecticut (24).
