The Fort Hays State women's soccer team fell victim to putting the ball in its own net on Friday evening (Aug. 31) at UC-Colorado Springs in the season opener. The mishap came in the 72nd minute of the game after the teams played to a scoreless tie up to that point. UC-Colorado Springs went on to win by the 1-0 margin.
The Lady Tigers outshot the Mountain Lions 17-13, but Kelly Schroeder came up with the shutout win in goal for the Mountain Lions, stopping nine Tiger shots. Three of her saves were from a flurry of efforts from the Lady Tigers in the last three minutes of the game.
Rachael Schaad took the tough-luck loss for FHSU, not allowing a goal from any UCCS shots. She had four saves in the game.
The Lady Tigers will look for their first win of the season on Sunday (Sept. 2) at CSU-Pueblo in Pueblo, Colo.
